Local Information for Bourne End
Bourne End is a village in the parish of Wooburn, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is situated near the border with Berkshire, where a smaller river meets the River Thames. Bourne End has just over four and a half thousand inhabitants.
The village name is a common one in England, and refers to the end of the river (bourne being an Old English term for 'river'), as opposed to where the river begins, at the spring.
Today the village sits half way between the M4 and M40 motorways, meaning that it is a short distance from central London, and a very popular place for commuters to live.
Bourne End has a railway station on the Maidenhead to Marlow branch line. However, the future of this railway station has recently been called into question due to lack of funding, and there have been suggestions that it may have to be run voluntarily, as a community railway line2.
Bourne End has two primary schools, Westfield and Claytons, and one secondary school, Wye Valle...More
